A national roadshow demonstrating the latest satellite internet technology has kicked off in Tailem Bend this week.
A vehicle fitted with a satellite dish and connected to the National Broadband Network’s Sky Muster satellite visited the town on Tuesday for a Grain Growers Australia event and a public demonstration.
Eight or nine growers turned up to a morning meeting at the Riverside Hotel, and a stream of people – without any buffering – gave the service a test-drive on large touchscreens.
Testers were asked to input their household’s internet needs and find out what level of service would best suit them.
Grain Growers regional coordinator David was enthused.
“People in regional areas, we’re all being driven to conducting our business online, as long as your online service has the capacity,” he said.
“Farmers could do a lot more if they had … better speed and connectivity.”
Sky Muster has replaced NBN Co’s interim satellite service.
