SOUTH Australian livestock agent Ronnie Dix, from Elders Lucindale, has won the 2016 ALPA National Young Auctioneers Competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, from eight national competitors.
In front of an excited crowd of more than 2000 people, each auctioneer sold three lots while being judged by a panel of respected auctioneers within the industry.
They were marked on diction, values, voice and manner, as well as their presence and unique style.
He will now go on to represent Australia in the international competition at the Calgary Stampede in Canada later this year.
This is an unequalled opportunity for a young stock agent to showcase their talent on an international scale.
In addition, Ronnie will take home the Prosser Cup and various other prizes.
National runner-up went to Blake O’Reilly of Ray White Livestock in Guyra/Armidale, NSW.
The NAB Team Shield, sponsored by NAB Agribusiness, goes to the state with the highest collective score from the National competition and this year it was awarded to NSW, who were represented by Tom Boyle of Landmark Albury and Mr O’Reilly.
NSW retains the title for the second year running and is the state to beat in 2017.
ALPA CEO Andy Madigan said the national competition always provided such a strong line up of auctioneers.
“They are the best young auctioneers from throughout Australia,” he said.
“The competitors in the national competition have made their way through auctioneers schools and state competitions for their chance to sell on the national stage.”
The night before the competition, an ALPA Young Auctioneers Dinner was held, featuring a charity auction that raised $12,975 for the Black Dog Institute – a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression.
