YEARS of negotiations came to a head last Wednesday when saleyard operators voted to form a new peak representative body at the annual Saleyard Operators of Australia (SOA) Conference and Annual General Meeting.
Representatives from NSW, Queensland and South Australia voted to form the Australian Livestock Markets Association (ALMA) and replace the SOA at the 29th annual SOA confererence and annual general meeting, held July 7 to 8.
ALMA president Steve Loane, Naracoorte, SA, said it had become very clear they needed to become a national peak body to be heard in government.
