University of Adelaide's Moralana Station, north of Hawker, has sold to a South Australian pastoral family.
The University's Services and Resources vice-president Paul Duldig said the proceeds from the sale would be invested in world-class infrastructure and facilities for agriculture and animal science research and education.
Moralana was bequeathed to the University of Adelaide and Prince Alfred College as part of the J.S. Davies estate, with the University owning five-sixths and PAC one-sixth.
Mr Davies expressed a wish that the University operate Moralana (and fellow J.S. Davies property Munduney) for 20 years, which lapsed in 1989.
His desire to support agricultural research, particularly relating to beef cattle, will be honoured with proceeds from this sale reinvested in agriculture teaching and research facilities at the Roseworthy and Waite campuses at the University of Adelaide.
“The University is very grateful to its many benefactors, past and present, for their support of our research programs and students," Mr Duldig said.
"We continue to receive strong philanthropic support from annual giving and bequests, reflecting the University's high standing in the community."
