SIX-year old Holstein, Rockridge Ladino Shantell EX91-2E, sold for $25,000 during the Paravale herd dispersal at Parawa on Friday - one of the highest prices paid for a dairy cow in South Australia.
The 2007 All Australasian 3yo winner has produced more than 11,000 litres with a production index of 126.
She completes nine generations of EX and VG and had calved four weeks ago, producing 51L at 4.7 per cent fat and 3.4pc protein.
She was offered in pen one by Paravale principal Jack Bramley and was purchased by the Gardiner family, who run the well-known Avonlea herd at Five Ways, Victoria.
Overall, Mr Bramley offered 151 cows at the sale, averaging an impressive $2651.
Buyers came from across Australia, including Western Australia, Vic, Queensland and locally.
The second-highest price was $7900 by Elm Banks Holsteins, Koroit, Vic, for 5yo Starcrest Roy Maryjane VG87, which is due in February to well-known sire Damion.
Local purchases went to Roselake Holsteins, Meningie, which took home top young cow Paravale Septstrom Maryjane VG at $6600 and Rockridge Allen Shiver (ET) VG 88 at $5600.
Fellow Meningie breeder LW Thorpe bought Paravale Rubens Rose (ET) VG 85 - a well-uddered 3yo from the Blackrose family - at $4900.
