MERINO fleece state judging winner Morgan McCallum has her tried and tested way of weighing-up wool.
"First I look at the colour and bloom and work on that first," she said. "Then I look at trueness of breed, how sound that is, then go on to the other bits."
The Year 11 student at Booleroo Central School grew up on a small farm and had access to her uncle's sheep operation.
She has been studying agriculture at school for the past two years and thinks she might like to consider a career in the industry.
This was the first time she had competed at Adelaide in the state competition but she was second at Crystal Brook Show and third last year at Melrose Show.
The competition involved Morgan placing the fleece in the order she considered suitable as well as an oral presentation explaining her decision.
She is now able to go on to compete at the national competition at next year's Royal Sydney Show, and will be doing lots of preparation with her ag teacher to help her get ready for the competition.
