BOWEN Suffolk Stud, Millthorpe, NSW, continued its stellar run in the Suffolk ewe classes, winning back-to-back champion ewe ribbons and going one better than last year to claim the supreme exhibit title with Bowen 344.
Stud principal Greg Good said the ewe - sired by Pamellen Highway - was "pretty much faultless''.
At 109 kilograms, the winning ewe had 12 millimetres of fat, 46mm eye muscle depth, 14.3 for post-weaning weight, -1.3 PW fat, and -0.3 PWEMT.
Judge Ian Pfeiffer, Bordertown, said the ewe stood out from her first class of the day - ewe born before June 30.
"She is an outstanding ewe, and didn't stand wrong all day - I just couldn't look past her," Mr Pfeiffer said. "She's got that outlook a ewe should have and the strength you don't often see."
The ewe had performed well throughout the year, winning supreme Suffolk exhibit at the NSW State Sheep Show at Dubbo in May.
In winning the RAS supreme ribbon, the ewe edged out champion ram Allendale 1341, exhibited by the Day family, Bordertown.
Sired by 2011 supreme interbreed ram Allendale 588, the 132kg July-drop ram measured 9mm fat, 46mm EMD, 12.1PWWT, -0.9PWfat and 0PWEMD.
"He was a correct and proud ram, wasn't overdone and had meat in the right places," Mr Pfeiffer said.
Mr Pfeiffer said the line-up illustrated why Suffolks were still relevant to modern lamb producers.
"When I was asked to judge, I had an idea in mind of what I hoped to see, and I'm pleased to say there were plenty of sheep I liked," he said.
