WANING seasonal conditions affected the quality of sheep and lambs yarded at Yelta, Vic, on Wednesday last week.
There were 18,500 offered, with 1.5-year-old ewes making to $140.
Making the top price was RJ&BA Edwards, Devon Station, Broken Hill, NSW, who also topped last year's November Yelta market.
Their line of 550, June July-drop ewes, October-shorn and Limevale-blood, made to $140, with seconds making $98.
The same vendor also sold 1200 5.5-6.5yo ewes for $90 for the tops and $87 for the seconds.
Elders' Kelvin Fitzgerald said while it was a solid sale, quality was back on the previous month, so young ewes were cheaper.
"Quality has come back with the season," he said.
"But, older and breeding ewes were very good and sold well.
"Wether lambs still sold well, considering their condition."
Mr Fitzgerald said he expected young ewe prices would come back on the previous month's sale.
"Most young ewes have been bought and joined by now," he said.
There was widespread buying support, including from Vic areas such as Stawell, Nhill, Swan Hill, Ouyen and Wycheproof and from Berrigan and Balranald in NSW.
Avondale Rural Trading, Broken Hill, sold 1000 1.5yo ewes, October-shorn and Mulloorie-blood, with tops making $110 and seconds $108, $88 and $63. The same vendor also sold 140 3.5yo ewes for $95 and 100 1.5yo Dohne ewes, Hamilton Run-blood, for $100.
Also selling 1.5yo ewes were CJ Barnes & Son, Haythorpe Station, NSW, with 800 Greenfields-bloods making $86 for the tops and $79 and $73 for the seconds and KJ&WT Herring, Gum Park Station, NSW, 700 East Bungaree-bloods, tops making $102 and seconds $76.
CA Wilhelm, Inkerman Station, NSW, sold 1.5yo ewes, Mulloorie-blood, for $84 and 500 4.5yo ewes with the tops making $90 and seconds $63.
CW Scadding, Belvedere Station, sold 300 1.5yo ewes, Moorundie Park-blood, for $85.
Mooleulooloo Pastoral, Cockburn, sold 400 4.5yo ewes, North Ashrose-blood, for $83 and 200 1.5-3.5yo ewes for $87.
OM&MC McLeod, Kelso Station, sold 500 6yo ewes, Warrananga-blood, for $93.
LF&SM Mashford, Katalpa Station, NSW, sold 160 F1 Dohne ewes, 2.5-3.5yo, Mt Alma/Ashmore-blood, for $88, and 150 4.5-5.5yo ewes for $80.
