IN THEIR first showing for the year, the James family, Coolawang stud, Mundulla, achieved a near clean sweep in the Border Leicester judging on Friday.
Mirroring last year's show results, Coolawang took out grand champion ram, while the Jacksons Superborders stud from Moyston, Vic, took out grand champion ewe.
The top ram was the junior champion from the ram under 1.5 years class. The one-year-old weighed 114.5 kilograms, and recorded an eye muscle depth of 44 millimetres and an 8mm fat score, while the reserve junior champion ram from Coolawang was also a 1yo, weighing 97.5kg, 43mm EMD and 10mm fat.
Junior champion ewe and reserve also went to Coolawang, but it was a 108kg two-year-old ewe with 38mm EMD, 10mm fat and a four-week-old lamb at-foot from the Jacksons stud that stole the judge's eye.
