DESPITE one of the smaller yardings Jamestown has seen, the August 21 market was well supported by buyers, vendors and onlookers.
Most classes of sheep trended firm to dearer - the only exception being older wethers - with agents quoting a lift of $10 to $15 across the board.
Young crossbred lambs were the feature of the day, with the best types making $87 to $99.
A run of 90 March-drop White Suffolk-cross lambs from PG Ferguson, Peterborough, topped this category.
The seconds of this draft made $80.
CS&AM Simpson, Jamestown, sold 120 April/May-drop woolly lambs at $98.
KW&DA Bartlett and S Bartlett sold 220 and 150 lambs respectively at $87.
Wether lambs made to $80 for 250 sold by RH Catford, Orroroo, while older lambs from P&C McInnis, Wonoka, Hawker, made to $87.
One of the larger feature drafts was 516 first-cross SAMM ewes, 2013-drop, sold by Hurtlegrove Pastoral Co, Orroroo.
These made to $142, with the seconds selling at $120.
Strong competition pushed 2013-drop breeding ewes up by $15, with secondary types improving the same.
The best 2013-drop ewes were 150 Baderloo-blood ewes from Gumbowie P/L which made $149.
A dispersal of 145 Barton Hill-blood ewes sold for $148 by John Casey, Amelia Park, Peterborough.
Mr Casey also sold 2009-drop ewes at $96.
The next Jamestown market will be held on September 18.
