A STRONG yarding of about 790 cattle attracted good competition at the Naracoorte store cattle sale on Thursday last week.
Good lotfeeder support bolstered bidding, pushing steers to $900, selling for $1.90 a kilogram to $2.10/kg.
The top steers were 17 Angus sold by CW Hall & Co, Penola, at $900 to Thomas Foods International.
GG&JJ Heinze and Bimbimbie Props each sold steers to $850
The major vendors were MacLachlan Props, Pewsey Vale, who sold 204 Poll Herefords including 26 steers at $740, 33 at $690 and 21 at $580.
They also sold 16 cows and calves to $1130, and 10 cows to $1020.
Further runs of MacLachlan cows made $970, $920 and $900, and eight heifers made $630.
AC Day & Sons, Western Flat, sold 10 Poll Hereford steers at $780.
Cantara Partners sold 11 steers, 366kg, at $750, and ARK&KM Ellis sold 22 steers, 329kg, at $700.
JT,VF&BT Howard sold 66 cattle in total, including 17 steers at $675, 19 at $645 and 14 heifers at $540.
MK&C Agnew, Tantanoola, sold 13 heifers, 382kg, at the top price of $640, and N&S Smith, Katalpa, sold 11 Hereford heifers at $610 to TFI.
PB&KM Derrington sold 10 heifers, 248kg, at $325.
SAL's Laryn Gogel said the overall sale was very good, with a fairly mixed yarding of varieties of cattle.
"We went from heavier steers with a fair bit of maturity down to those younger, lighter steers and heifers," he said.
"Across all categories the qualities were very good. Landmark had a good run of cattle from MacLachlan Props at Pewsey Vale which sold very well."
