PRICES held steady on recent rates for steers and heifers at Strathalbyn's final market for the year on Friday.
The yarding of 500 cattle featured a mix of breeds and strong competition.
A pen of six Angus steers from KL&LF Pearce made the $680 top.
Richard Wright, Cut Hill, Victor Harbor, was "very happy" with how the sale went, making the $595 top for Hereford steers.
JRD Wright sold Hereford heifers at $545.
A dozen Murray Grey steers averaging 280-kilograms from Jaybott Rural went to a top of $600.
Elders Strathalbyn livestock manager Danny Reynolds was happy with a "pretty good, solid sale for the last sale of the year".
"The steers were in-line from recent weeks, so were fully firm and underpinned by the boat trade, and the heifers were fully firm and probably $10 dearer," he said.
This was attributed to the strong boat trade boosting competition.
