NARACOORTE butcher Tender Cuts has won bragging rights after taking top spot at the 2014 SA Sausage King Awards.
At the presentation night held at Hotel Grand Chancellor in Adelaide last weekend, it was judged winner of the traditional Australian class with its BBQ butcher sausages and the lamb class with its lamb, feta and spinach sausages.
Tender Cuts continued its success in the Australian Meat Industry Council-run awards with second place in the pork class with its pork cassalinga and third in the poultry class with its chicken, spinach and pinenut snags.
Butcher, manager and owner Shaun Watson said a great sausage came down to top quality, fresh ingredients and "a little bit of love and care".
"All our lamb is sourced locally and we make sure we use only quality meat," he said.
The butcher shop, owned by the Watson family for the past 18 years, sources lamb from their Hynam property as well as from local producers Graham and Karen Clothier, Woolumbool.
Tender Cuts has been entering the Sausage King competition for the past eight years.
Other major award winners were Barossa Fine Foods, traditional Australian pork and gourmet/open class; Bruce's Meat Service, Mitcham, poultry; and Hygienic Meats, Loxton, continental.
