ONE of SA's high profile Angus studs, Stoney Point Performance Angus, will relocate from Keith to Murray Bridge.
After more than a decade in the South East the Gommers family has listed its Leonawood and Browns properties for sale, by expression of interest.
Stud principal John Gommers said the stud would continue to hold its annual bull sale at the same location, the Eight Mile sale complex near Keith, during Angus Week each year.
There would be an opportunity with the sale for those looking for top-quality Angus stud females to buy 100 autumn-calving cows with heifer calves at foot, in groups.
Mr Gommers said it had been a difficult decision after a decade living at Leonawood, but they needed to centralise their farming business which included a 450-sow piggery, and grazing and cropping land near Murray Bridge.
"As many people are aware, dad's health has not been good for the last few years and it has become apparent in the last six to 12 months that his health issues will be ongoing," Mr Gommers said.
"He made a decision he needs to slow down."
John has assumed more day-to-day responsibility from his father Des and has spent many hours travelling between the two properties.
This is becoming increasingly difficult with a young family.
"Doing this, everything will be in the one spot, and we have the opportunity to acquire more country near home," he said.
"As sad as it is to leave the area we are excited about the future.
"For me, it is moving back to where I grew up, and my wife Bek will be closer to her family who are based in the city."
