FOR nine years, the Tatiara region's farmers and wider agriculture sector have been hitting the fairways at the Bordertown Golf Club in the name of charity, and this year they passed a significant fundraising milestone.
What started out as a small social event donating a few thousand dollars to worthy causes, has grown into a significant annual fundraiser backed by more than 100 businesses and close to 200 players.
In its nine-year history, the South East Farmers Day has raised more than $100,000.
This year, it donated $10,000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, $3000 to the Tatiara CFS, and $2000 to the Bordertown SES.
Organising committee representative Dale Cameron said the event illustrated the generosity of all the associated businesses and service providers.
"I think what has gotten people really engaged is the charity component and the fact we present money to the charities on the day," he said.
The event is an 18-hole, four-ball ambrose.
For those unfamiliar with golf, teams of four play together, selecting the team's best stroke on each occasion.
The event is backed by major sponsors Wise Farm Equipment, JBS and AWN.
"The concept of the name Farmers Day is to involve local farmers as well as the associated services and businesses linked to the farming sector, which is pretty endless," Mr Cameron said.
"This year was our biggest number of individual sponsors, with 104 companies sponsoring the event.
"We would have had 20 to 30 the first year, so we're getting great growth and support from repeat sponsors."
Held after harvest and before seeding, the event is being supported by more and more players and sponsors each year, and in turn supporting local charities and organisations.
