THE Northern SA Merino Expo welcomed a plethora of Merino and Poll Merino studs to its event at Jamestown on Thursday, making it a success for organisers in its second year.
Eighteen studs from across the Mid North attended and, displayed auction rams and stud reserves to help paint a picture about genetic progression, for existing and potential clients.
The inception of the expo last year came from four local breeders who saw an opportunity to bring studs from across SA together in one, central location in the lead up to the traditional spring sale season.
Organising committee members Greg Andrews, Hamilton Run, Jamestown; Tom Ashby, North Ashrose, Gulnare; Stacey Bradtke, Bradfield, Mannanarie; and Ian Bradtke believed it could become one of SA's most popular Merino expos.
Mr Andrews led the day's proceedings and said stud interest was solid at this year's event.
"The committee was really pleased with the outcome of the expo following last year's inaugural event.
"There was a clash with the timing of the Eyre Peninsula Field Days but it was still a great event for the Mid North."
The number of rams that featured in the expo's Pringles Crouch Hogget Ram of the Year, Michell Wool Pen of Three Hogget Rams and Merino SA Ram of the Year, lineups were of "exceptional" standard, according to Mr Andrews.
The Stock Journal's VANESSA BINKS and MARK SCOWN went along to Jamestown to capture all of the action.
