SHEEP numbers were up by almost 200 head at Mount Pleasant this week, with strong competition from regular buyers ensuring solid prices.
The market saw 1077 sheep through the yards for its July sale up from June's offer of 897, while 142 cattle were up for grabs, a dip of just 17 from last month.
Lambs sold to an average of $136.85 per head, hoggets averaged $128.57 and wethers were just behind on $123.81.
Meanwhile the 107 ewes offered averaged $119.81 and 48 sheep were sold for an average of $120.17.
A total of 43 heifers were sold at an average of $1356.28 per head, steers averaged $1462.86 and cows averaged $1776.47.
Nutrien Mount Pleasant's Ashley Fawcett said he was pleased with the market's sale result.
"We had a really good crowd which was good to see were people getting out and about supporting the local market," he said.
"(The yarding) was probably more than what was expected and we were very happy with the good competition from buyers.
"Our better quality lambs did sell really quite well to smaller butchers and bigger processers.
"The store job pulled back a little bit but that's to do with the time of year and it's on trend with other markets around the area."
Mr Fawcett said the trend was similar in the cattle ring.
"We had some really good quality finished cattle there," he said.
"Once again our top end sold really well with good competition from smaller butchers, feedlotters and processers.
"I think in general the market was quite strong overall."
