I think we've all experienced the feeling of going into the supermarket or grocery store for 'just a few things' and come out with a receipt total far higher than expected.
It seems to be happening more of late.
While I do not begrudge paying more for the high quality food our farmers produce - except for my regular grumble that lamb cutlet prices now make it a special occasion meal - it grates somewhat when the higher price is not flowing back through the supply chain.
It feels like we almost have to go commodity by commodity to show what is happening with prices.
It took some time to start seeing some positive signs in milk prices, and it appears we now have to do the same with eggs.
This is likely to only escalate further, with news trucking companies have been holding back on passing some of the high prices on to their customers.
This is obviously not sustainable.
But it will then be another input cost for producers - and consumers!
While suppliers are stockpiling wherever they can, we are too reliant on overseas markets and sellers for a product we can produce within Australia.
With more and more rail lines closing, there is an increasing reliance on trucks. So we need to be able to keep them on the road to keep Australia moving.
