Regional voices sought in govt advisory groups

The SA government has reserved a number of positions for regional residents on these councils, which report to Human Services Minister Nat Cook.

These include the Disability Advisory Council, the Youth Advisory Council and LGBTIQA+ Advisory Council, all launched recently.

Regional Development Minister Clare Scriven said it was important that people in regional areas provided input to government strategy, policies and legislation.

"The new advisory councils will be important forums to provide input into government policies, so it is vital to include regional perspectives," she said.

"People with a wide range of skills and backgrounds are needed so we can support our community and know that we are making positives changes that benefit people across our state."

Ms Cook said they were seeking people from a wide range of backgrounds to apply and bring their experiences to the table.

"The new ministerial Advisory Councils will play an important role in advising me directly on the issues that matter most to our youth, those with a disability and LGBTIQA+ people in South Australia," she said.

"I'm looking to appoint thought leaders and inspiring advocates who can represent the diverse interests of people in this state, and we particularly want to encourage regional residents to apply.

"I hope many regional people will apply to be involved in these roles, enabling them to raise relevant issues with me directly."

Expressions of interest are open for membership of the new councils, which will play an important role in advising the Minister on high level strategic issues relevant to our communities.
