
WHILE veterinarians have always been in high demand, in recent months they have been in particularly short supply.
Practice owners say vacancies for vet jobs are remaining open even longer, leading to decisions about what services can still be offered.

This has had the flow-on effect with wait times for appointments extending out weeks longer than normally observed.
One factor that as been attributed as a cause of this issue has been the number of pets acquired during COVID lockdowns.
But there are also a number of vets retiring and others leaving the industry.
