I have received a card forwarded to me from the Stock Journal office.
It is a 'Thank you' card. A reader wanted to thank me for my columns.
One never knows the impact of one's writing on readers across the state and so it is fantastic when feedback is received.
My fan thanked me for my Stock Journal columns.
However, "the biggest thank you is for Audrey (and Betty) who are both remaining with you. As for Bertha, she should have listened to 'we cull any temperamental cattle'!"
Well, this reader certainly knows the detail from my columns.
It is a treasure to know that someone enjoys the idiosyncrasies of our farming life and goes to the trouble of writing a card.
The absolute cherry on top of the ice-cream was the card was written by an Audrey! That is really special.
They are used to Audrey being unafraid of humans touching her and feeding her mysterious food but remain perplexed about such behaviour.
One good turn deserves another.
My husband suggested we organise Audrey to thank Audrey.
I have been mulching a long garden bed with cardboard and old hay. We used one large piece of cardboard for our message and I scavenged the last of the apples to entice the star bovine.
Audrey was conveniently near the fence and was keen to see if I had some fruit.
She put her great big head out to take them.
My husband took a series of photos and neglected to tell me that my hair was all over the place. Oh, well.
The apples disappeared very quickly and then she was in for a scratch behind the ear.
My husband got over the fence to give her back a rub. This, too, was well received.

I was thinking recently I haven't bottle fed a calf for the past two calvings. I probably shouldn't speak too soon.
We are nearing the end of calving and there is a cow and calf in the yard and the calf is happy to drink from a bottle but much less keen to drink from its mother.
And I do need a new calf character.
