Lamb numbers were slightly back but prices surged ahead, as buyers gathered today for the only Ouyen, Vic, Livestock Exchange market for April.
The yarding offered 4302 lambs - down about 1500 from March - while prices were firm to $10 dearer.
Mutton numbers increased, with 505 offered, with prices also firm to $5 dearer.
Export suitable crossbred lambs sold from $183 to $240, or $6.20 a kilogram to $7.20/kg; trade crossbreds were $144-$196 or $7.40-$7.80/kg; and lighter lambs made $66-$160.
Heavy Merino lambs made from $185-$230 or $6.80-$7.20/kg, and lighter lots made $100-$165.
J&A Frankie, Patchewollock, Vic, topped the market with their run of 86 crossbred lambs, which made $240.
Erhardt Partners, Galah, Vic, sold 161 at $235, while M.U.T, Tempy had 126 make $226.
G&P Burns, Tempy, sold 20 at $222, while CM&RK Lockett, Underbool,, Vic, sold 60 at the same price.
Glen Esk Pastoral, Wentworth, NSW, had a run of 67 Dorper lambs made $190, as well as 86 at $181.
MGN Gibbins, Galah, had 45 Dorpers make $182.
For Merino lambs, Wegner Bros, Karoonda, had 185 make $230.
A Beelitz F/T, Parrakie, sold 45 at $213, while RN&LA Bald, Murray Bridge, made $200 for 55.
