Six competitors were involved in the 56th Dairy Heifer Competition held in the Mount Torrens and districts on Wednesday.
There were five dairies with cattle on display of which six regional diaryfarmers exhibited with Clem Mason, and ST Australia's Marty Glennen the judges for the day.
Ben Wilhelm, Rodney Herrmann, Rick Gladigau, Michael and Roger Kowald, all of Mount Torrens, Craig and Toby Zilm, Birdwood, Shane and Kylee Meiglich, Charleston, competed for the best group of three, best in-milk heifer, best mature cow and heifer of the day.
Mr Glennen said the first place two-year-old was the last heifer of the day seen at Meiglich's.
"It probably gave her an advantage because she had some milk on her - I love seeing cows with milk on them," he said.
Kylee and Shane Meiglich won the best in-milk heifer and the best heifer of the day.
Mr Meiglich said they start off with about 20 or 30 animals when selecting their competition heifers.
"We just go, pull her out, pull her out, pull her out and so the ones left in the back corner, they're the ones we try to figure out what was actually wrong with them," he said.
"It's not what's so good about her, it's what's not wrong about it, and the judge even said today there was just nothing wrong about her - she is a great correct cow."
He said the best heifer of the day was an easy pick but matching her for a group of three was very difficult.
The winning heifer came from a cow which has received an excellent five times over and has produced - Mr Meiglich believes the heifer is following the cows footsteps.
Meanwhile Michael and Roger Kowald won the best group of three with an overall point score of 262.

Roger said to compete in the best group of three you needed three peas in a pod.
"It was the closest three we could find, we always look at the pins as they like low pins and calving ease," he said.
Rodney's group of three achieved 258 points and Meiglich reached a total of 255 points.
The Kowald's also won the best mature cow.
Mr Glennen said any cow that can hold herself like that with that much power and strength is obviously working really hard.
"It's a credit to any breed - I love that cow," he said.
Roger said the mature cow was what everyone dreams of breeding.
"It's every dairyman's dream cow," he said.
"We had one and I said, she has to be entered - she is perfect all-round."
Mr Mason said the criteria on the marking sheets included capacity, confirmation, legs and feet, udder development and rump.
"One of the Meiglich's ended up at 97 points, I thought she was amazing," he said.
"I look forward to seeing two of the Meiglich's offering again, I thought they were just amazing and the type of cows I'd like to breed.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the company, the cows and the quality.
"Keep on supporting this competition."
