IN A happy coincidence, the heifer sold as a donation for the Angus Foundation to support young beef enthusiasts will in turn be the foundation female for a young breeder's herd.
Put up as a donation lot by Perry Gunner on day two of his Stoney Point Angus dispersal, Stoney Point Annabell S002 was purchased by Binnowie Angus's Will Watson, Coonalpyn, for his daughter Matilda and will be the foundation of her own herd within the family's enterprise.
The Angus Foundation supports scholarships, awards, bursaries and research grants for young beef enthusiasts and will receive the $9000 in proceeds from the sale.
When announcing the sale of the donation heifer, Mr Gunner stressed the importance of supporting the youth and next generation of the cattle and Angus breeding industry.

Angus Australia extension manager Jake Phillips echoed Perry's sentiments and said the sale was "meant to be".
"It's quite apt that the Angus Foundation heifer is going to end up being a foundation for a young person's breeding herd," he said.
"It's fantastic to have someone like Perry, who has supported many people and young people over a long period of time, commit to a donation which has now realised $9000.
"It was an incredible result and will now allow us to continue offering some of the leading scholarships, awards and bursaries that are available to young people in the beef industry.
"Previously, we've mainly relied on a voluntary levy from Angus members. To have a significant donation like this means we can offer more awards and scholarships than we have done previously."
Stoney Point stud manager Peter Colliver was pleased to see the heifer bought by an ambitious future breeder.
"It's pleasing to see Perry supporting the youth and it was really good to see some young breeders buy the heifer," he said.
"The money they paid for it will go back into developing Angus youth which is important."
