THE principals of Arki and Beeamma Murray Grey studs were ecstatic with a much-improved result at the annual Green Triangle Murray Grey sale.
Held at Western Flat on Wednesday, the two studs run by Geoff and Kate Buick, and Denise and Anthony Fabris and families, achieved strong clearances on their bulls, and stud and commercial heifers.
In the sale breakdown, 22 of 26 bulls sold during the official auction with more selling quickly after the final hammer had fallen.
The bulls averaged $5863, with the sale high of $7500 reached twice for a bull each from Beeamma and Arki.
The average was a $716 rise on 2021, with five extra bulls sold. Arki sold 14 of 17 bulls and averaged $5893, while Beeamma sold eight of nine and averaged $5813.
Arki principal Geoff Buick was pleased to see the bull side of the sale improve and complement the consistently strong heifer showing.
"It was a very positive step forward for the bulls with the clearance going up and the average rising," Mr Buick said.
"The females went extremely well, with AuctionsPlus very strong.
"The maternal side of the Murray Grey breed has been strong in the commercial industry for five, six years now and that continued."
The 872 kilogram, March 2020-drop, Beeamma Romeo R25 was one of the top-priced bulls and was bought by Meril and Michael Jones, through Elders Strathalbyn, who run a small Murray Grey herd at Waitpinga and Inman Valley.
Romeo had a low birthweight, a scrotal circumference of 41.5 centimetres and a frame score of 6.4, and was among the highest in the catalogue on Long Fed Export, Super Market and Heavy Grass dollar index values.
Sharing top price honours was the silver coated Arki Roger R43, who was purchased over AuctionsPlus.
Weighing in at 860kg, the May 2020-drop Roger had a scrotal circumference of 38cm and frame score of 6.4.
The volume buyer was Litchfield Pastoral, via Port Augusta, who had a representative travel down to buy eight bulls all at $5500.
Three of five stud heifers sold to a high of $5600 twice and averaged $5467.
The Jones's purchased Arki Elizabeth R9, while RJ Hage was the winning bidder on Arki Honey R10.
Results were again strong on Arki and Beeamma's commercial heifers with the full offering of 51 PTIC or calf-at-foot females sold and averaging $3737 - a significant increase of $1215 on last year's result.
About half of the commercial heifers were bought through AuctionsPlus, with strong interest also coming from Ballyvaughan Murray Greys, Boconnoc Park, buying two groups of heifers at $4100 a head and $3400 a head, and SA&LJ Nitschke, through Elders Loxton, buying two groups at $3700 a head and $3500 a head.
The sale was conducted by Elders, with Tony Wetherall and Tom Dennis sharing the rostrum.
