BURRA will celebrate its war memorial centenary tomorrow, with a dedication and wreath laying from Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC.
At 2pm tomorrow, it will mark exactly 100 years to the hour that the Burra Districts Fallen Soldiers Memorial at Market Square was dedicated by prime Minister Billy Hughes on Match 29 1922.
The monument was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One, with names of local soldiers who died in service or killed in action in World war two added later.
When originally erected, the monument cost £3000, and was unveiled to a crowd of almost 3000 people on the day.
Tomorrow's event will be hosted by the Burra RSL Sub Branch and will kick off at 1.30pm, before a afternoon tea in the Regional Council of Goyder building post-event.
