Naracoorte market inline with trends as steers make to $3090

Returns for steers were to the vendors advantage, with the Elders run making the $3090 or $6.20 a kilogram, market top for Muster Pastoral's at Mundulla West 11 Granite Ridge/Stoney Point-blood Angus steers that sold to Elders Naracoorte.

The February/March 2021-drop European Union-accredited steers, averaged 497 kilograms.

PPH&S offered the largest run of steers at the market and were just shy of the market top, after Hilton Rural made $3000 or $5.33/kg, for 24, 562kg, February/March 2020-drop Pathfinder-bld Angus steers that sold to Jackson Farming, Vic.

The same vendor made a further $2900 or $5.38/kg, for 21 steers averaging 539kg to Thomas Foods International.

Abros made the same money or $5.32 for nine, Angus steers that averaged 545kg, that sold to Jackson Farming.

Raw Family Trust, Tailem Bend, made $2800 or $6.16/kg in Elders run for 12, March/April 2021-drops averaging 454kg that sold to TFI.

Nutrien Ag Solutions also had quality lineup of steers, with the agents tops making $2619 or $6.70/kg for nine, 391kg Angus cross steers from Meadowside, Naracoorte, that sold to Hopkins River.

Karowara Pty Ltd, Naracoorte, made $2395 or $6.60/kg for 15, Pathfinder-blds.

In the wrap up of this week's market, Elders Naracoorte agent Josh Reeves said it was a mixed yarding on offer.

"Heavy steers, weighing between 450 kilograms to 550kg, made anywhere between $2700 to just more than $3000.

"The 380kg to 450kg section made between $2400 to $2650."

Mr Reeves said the demand was there for 280kg to 350kg cattle, with those making between $2350 to $2750 or $6.80 a kilogram to $7/kg.

Lighter cattle were making plenty of money, Mr Reeves said, with most making well over $7/kg.

"A few made more than $8/kg but the vast majority made $7.80 to $8/kg."

In the heifer section, it was quality yarding.

In the Elders run, the best made $2400 for 450kg heifers.

"There was a demand for European-Union cutting cattle throughout the entire yarding," Mr Reeves said.

In the heifer section, three Angus cross heifers made $2330 or $5.71/kg, from Rosmann.

The March/April 2021-drops averaged 408kg and sold to Nutrien Ag Adelaide.

Banning Partners, Wattle Range, made $2300 or $6.25/kg, for 15 Charolais cross heifers averaging 368kg that sold to Elders Mildura.

Landscape Beef, Keith, made $2380 or $5.77/kg, for 12, 412kg August/September 2020-drop black baldy heifers that sold to Andrew Long.

The same vendor made the same money and $6.21/kg for its 33, EU-accredited heifers that weighed 383kg that sold to Duncan Brown.
