A new resource to help link university students with industry has been launched - bigger and better than ever.
Representatives of the Adelaide University Agricultural Students Association came together with the Agricultural Institute Australia - SA division to launch the 2022 Student Compendium at the Arkaba on Thursday night.
The compendium, which has been compiled by three University of Adelaide agricultural science students and AUASA members, completing an internship with AIA-SA, brings together a list of agricultural opportunities.
As part of the University of Adelaide's agricultural science degree, students are required to perform 450 hours of field work and internships, with this compendium providing a starting point.
AUASA president and intern James Easter said it was great to see their hard work in its finished format.
"It's very rewarding to see it in student's hands," he said.
"It's a one-stop shop for anyone searching for opportunities in any kind of agriculture."
It just goes to show that agriculture is screaming out for student involvement and employees.- JAMES EASTER
Fellow intern Emily Chambers said there there was a broad range of opportunities including in to the book, from undergraduates and post-graduate, and ranging from agribusiness, broadacre cropping, soils, horticulture and more, as well as highlighting internships, awards, scholarships and more.
"The feedback we've gotten is that it's a really great resource to have in your hands," Ms Chambers said.
"There is a greater recognition of the need to inform students of what is our there - there is so much that it can be hard to find.
"If you want to get involved, there is so much out there."
This is the second year the compendium has been put together, and it has grown from 153 entries last year to about 200 in this edition, with plans to be even bigger again for the 2023 print.
"It just goes to show that agriculture is screaming out for student involvement and employees," Mr Easter said.
The 2022 Student Compendium was supported by the SA Sheep Industry Fund, among a number of industry and agribusiness representatives.
The launch of the compendium coincided with the regular AIA-SA meeting, which had a theme of methods of recruiting and welcoming the next generation into the industry.
