THE GRDC will hold three free workshops from tomorrow (Thursday, February 17) on the Eyre Peninsula to support growers in their recovery following recent storms and heavy rainfall events.
The workshops, Kimba on February 17 at 2pm and Ungarra (9am) and Cowell (2.30pm) on February 18, will cover topics including managing and treating affected soils and farm planning for recovery, as well as strategies for getting the 2022 winter crop in.
Strategies discussed will include identifying and understanding soils constraints, understanding losses and gains and Nitrogen mineralisation and budgeting.
The workshop will also feature a session with a Ravensthorpe, WA, grower who will share experiences of recovery following a major storm event five years ago.
He will share his earthmoving, soil management, cropping and insurance tips.
Recovery support teams will attend and share advice around support services available, while financial counsellors will also be available to offer support for community members.
A Volunteer BlazeAid representative will be at the Kimba workshop to explore the possibility of helping farmers with their fencing.
