A well-muscled, docile and structurally-correct bull bound for Queensland topped a successful online Simmental combined sale for Yerwal Estate and Mt Mooney studs on Tuesday.
Of eight traditional and black Simmentals on offer, six sold to a top of $17,500, averaging $9250.
In the individual breakdowns, Yerwal Estate, Lucindale, sold four sires of six on offer - including the top price bull - to average $9375, while Mt Mooney, Culburra, sold both of their bulls in the offering, one at $9500 and the other at $8500.
The top price bull, Yerwal Estate Ripper, was AI-sired by Bar 5 SA Glover, with EBVs including 2.4 birthweight, 2.6 for eye muscle area, -0.6 rib fat depth, -0.2 rump fat depth and -0.4 intramuscular fat.
It was knocked down to Appleton Cattle Company, Charters Towers, Qld, who also bought Mt Mooney Redtube, which made $8500.
Yerwal Estate stud principal Regan Burow said there had been good interest in Ripper in the weeks leading up to the sale.

"He is homozygous polled, and was exceptionally thick with a lot of muscle, so we expected him to do well," Mr Burow said.
"Appleton is a big commercial operation and they've got their own Simmental stud, I think Ripper is earmarked for the stud which is great to see."
Mr Burow was pleased with the sale, which was run in the online format for the first time this year. He has reduced the Simmental offering this year, instead choosing to focus on sending bulls to Queensland for the Queensland Simmental Bull Sale in July
"We'll probably be doing the same thing next year and sell online, it worked very well. Plenty of people were happy to buy the bulls without seeing them in the flesh," Mr Burow said.
Mt Mooney principal Renee Mooney was also pleased with the sale result, saying she was "absolutely stoked."
This is the third year Mt Mooney Simmental have sold bulls with Yerwal Estate in a combined sale.
"We've been working with Yerwal doing ET work for nearly 10 years now, it's a partnership that's growing and we're sharing genetics together and heading in a good direction," she said.
The $9500 top price Mt Mooney bull, Mt Mooney Rambo, sold to local buyer Vanessa Hooper, Colebatch, with the bull suiting Ms Hooper's operation "down to a tee", according to Ms Mooney.
Yerwal Estate's Angus sale is on Monday, February 14.
