The wool industry turned the corner with the release of the Vines' Committee recommendations. SA growers initially supported the proposals but many remained uncertain of the future. Medium wool from pastoral properties such as Nonning Station, Port Augusta (being loaded recently by Richard Scotchmer and Jason Tilbrook) was expected to be the target of the new era which is tipped to favour the greater promotion of blend wools.

It was a big month for sheep breeders in October 1961, with hogget competitions held at Kapunda and Weaver, Merinos on sale at Tumby Bay, the off-shears at Lameroo and the Dorset Fair.

Soil and pests were also up for discussion as was animal husbandry.
