Steers hit $2400 at Mt Pleasant special store cattle sale

Topping the steer section was one Limflex 455-kilogram steer from AW&DL Gray, Adelaide, who also sold four Limflex heifers, 343kg, at $1800.

DG Carter, Eudunda, sold two 447kg Murray Grey steers at $2390, as well as four 397kg two Murray Grey heifers, two which made $2100, and another two knocked down at $2070.

AJK Pastoral, Myponga, had three 435kg black baldy steers knocked down at $2370, and a Poll Hereford, 468kg, at $2270, as well as five other Poll Hereford steers, 345kg, making $1900.

They also topped the heifer offering, making $2200 for six black baldy heifers weighing $378kg.

Nildottie vendor RA Wenske sold a 455kg grey baldy steer at $2300, a price also made by seven 437kg Murray Grey steers from JB&MA Law, Mount Pleasant.

MPC & SJ Brown, Keyneton, sold six Angus steers, 395kg, at $2190.

They were slightly ahead of Rockleigh vendor Dopen Pty Ltd, who had one 414kg Murray Grey steer knocked down at $2140 and four weighing $335 knocked down at $1960.

Tanunda vendor Regari Pty Ltd put up a large offering in the sale, selling 14 Angus heifers, 358kg, at $2000 and another six, 302kg, at $1920, as well as thirteen Angus steers, 393kg, at $2120, and another six Angus steers, 320kg, at $1890.

SJ Pastoral, Tungkillo, sold three 282kg Angus-cross heifers at $1900, a price also made by six 340kg Murray Grey heifers from H Kungel, Mount Pleasant.

RJ Sibley, Angaston, sold seven Murray Grey heifers weighing 380kg at $2020.

Nutrien Mount Pleasant livestock agent Ashley Fawcett said heifers at the Mount Pleasant special store cattle sale attracted prices slightly above expectations, while steers were also in demand and were about "on par" with estimates.

"Heifers went slightly above expectations, people are chasing breeders to boost their numbers going forwards as well as to go into the feedlot," he said.

Mr Fawcett said the quality was impressive right through the sale.

"It was a real credit to the vendors with what was presented, the stock were carrying a little bit more condition than what we had here last year," he said.

In the cows with calves at-foot offering, David Wark, Paracombe, sold a black baldy with CAF at $2820, and another two at $2600.

The same price was also made by a PTIC Murray Grey heifer from Clifton Vineyards, Angaston.
