AFTER nearly two years of pandemic life, it can sometimes feel like we've fallen into a bit of a rhythm. At least here in SA.
But then every few months something comes that throws it all up in the air again. And something that should make our lives easier - Rapid Antigen Tests - has become yet another cause of stress, with so many unable to access them.
It's a jump back to April 2020, when it was toilet paper in short supply, inspiring multiple trips to the shop and any available rolls being snapped up quickly, because who knew when you'd see them again.
With RAT kits, it's almost the case that waiting until they're actually needed is almost too late, since nobody wants to be out searching while sick.
For those in healthcare, it was a similar situation for personal protective equipment, as RDAA president Megan Belot says. She fears the situation is repeating itself with COVID-19 testing, with rural and regional residents again being left behind.

Sheep need to be shorn, food needs to be produced and we can't risk having an entire workforce out sick all at once.
Nor are regional health systems equipped to deal with the potential strain of an outbreak within a small community.
Let's hope that this is just a temporary issue, as we continue to move towards a post-pandemic world.
