LATE in the sale at Jamestown found a record-making pen of ewes from the Thomas family at Tarcowie, after a run of 130, 2020-drops made $402.
South East buyers dominated the top end of the market with producers in Naracoorte and Mount Gambier taking advantage of the plethora of young sheep on offer.
A run of 130, 2020-drop Mernowie-blood ewes from MDG&KS Thomas,Taracowie, achieved a saleyard record last week, with Elders Mount Gambier making the final bid in a back forth tussle with another buyer.
Averaging 73.4 kilograms, the hoggets were October shorn.
Prices for ewes in the same section dropped away to $330 for 314, 2020-drop baderloo-blds from KD Fromm, Jamestown.
Averaging 54.2kg, the ewes sold to Southern Australian Livestock, Naracoorte.
NW&KM Kupke, Booleroo Centre, made slightly less at $320 for 149 Baderloo-blds that went the same way.
Ewes with good weight for age in the 4.5-year-old ewe section made to $294 for a run of 149 Greenfields-blds from vendor AR&DL Wenske on the Eyre Peninsula at Kimba.
It was a complete dispersal and Elders Mount Gambier made the final bid. The vendor also made $220 for 165, 2016-drop October-shns.
MA Kelly, Jamestown, made $246, for 146, 2017-drops that averaged 75kg. The Hamilton Run-blds had been running with White Suffolk rams and Nutrien Ag Melrose snapped the run of ewes up.
Wartaka Pastoral Company, Port Augusta, made the 6.5 year-old ewe section top price, after a line of 360, East Bungaree-blds averaging 40-64kg made $174 to Spence Dix & Co Clare.
Lambs attracted more attention than expected with crossbred lambs making to $187 for 167, woolly White Suffolk cross Merinos from TR,LP,&RJ Ellis, Jamestown, to Thomas Foods International.
The vendor offered 594 lambs in total, with the 228 seconds making $170 to TFI and a further 199 making $164 to Elders Jamestown.
Ewe lambs made to $182 for 227, Baderloo-blds from the Kupke family to Nutrien Ag Kimba.
Prices for wethers were firm, after Whim Park, Wilmington, made the $174 top price for 372 Roemahkita-blds that averaged 47.5kg and sold to Nutrien Ag Jamestown.
Fairvale Props, Jamestown, made $172 for 200 Moorundie South-blds that sold to Auctions Plus.
