The working group of the Ag Institute of Australia SA Division and the Adelaide University Agricultural Students Association are calling for all Agribusiness, Organisations, Associations and Government that are looking to support and employ the next generation to get onboard with the 2022 Student Compendium.
In early 2021 the AIA and AUASA collaborated to create The Student Compendium, a collation of awards, scholarships, conferences, competitions, training and graduate programs and internships.
It consisted of various opportunities to anyone studying or looking for a career in agriculture from work experience/internships with Elders, Grain Producers SA and Meat & Livestock Australia to grants/scholarships at Agrifutures, Marcus Oldham and Post Graduate opportunities.
It was launched at AUASA's Ag-tivate Your Career night earlier this year and it gathered great student interest and engagement.
After its success in 2021, where it was compiled by Bruce Hancock and Emma Peters and contained over 100 entries, the 2022 team is creating a bigger and better compendium with the help of AUASA members and interns, president James Easter, communications officer Shannon Blanett and Emily Chambers with the launch scheduled for late February on O'day at The Waite Campus.
The team is now in the process of contacting as many agribusinesses as possible over December and January.
AIA's Bruce Hancock said the compendium was especially beneficial for students studying their Bachelor in Agricultural or Animal Science.
"Up to 450 hours of internship work was required for completion of the degree, along with gaining valuable industry knowledge and contacts."
The next addition of the compendium will further expand student engagement with industry, allowing students to easily contact a business of their interest to undertake their hours and find or pursue their passion.
AUASA president James Easter said this one-stop-shop, single resource for the students to connect with industry, and even more so, for industry to connect with the students, has been highly valued.
"It also aids in directing anyone that might be interested in a future career in Agriculture but is unsure where to start as this resource is beneficial to not only university students, but there are opportunities inside that start at the High School and Undergraduate Level."
The 2022 version will have more than 150 entries and any contributions can be directed to agriculture@clubs.auu.org.au or brucehancock01@bigpond.com.
