Decisions delivered after delayed debates

For Kimba, the debate about the future of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility has been a six-year long ordeal for the community - whichever side of the debate they sat on.

There have been a lot of steps to get to this point, and a lot of times where it seemed a resolution was approaching, only for something to hold it back.

This is not to discount there is a proportion of the community that will be disappointed with this conclusion.

But there are also those that will celebrate, especially given the extra federal funding that has flowed into the community in recent years as a result of the process, and the future potential economic benefits.

The celebration should be a little less ambiguous in Millicent, where the official decision has been made to save the saleyards.

The Millicent saleyards have also been in this position before, where the axe has been looming, followed by a temporary reprieve.

But with the local council committing to pay just shy of $1 million for the necessary upgrades, it should mean the future of the yards is assured.
