AS Jamestown returned to fortnightly markets this week, sheep were yarded from all corners of the state and it was young ewes that attracted the most interest from bidders, with a run of 2020-drop Hamilton Run-bloods making the $274 top price.
Described as the "pride" of the yarding, a mob of 123 plain bodied September-shorn ewes from regular vendor Trevor Duke Nominees, Jamestown, made the top price and were chased by Spence and Dix for their 69.8 kilogram average weight.
Ex White River stud ewes from Daniell & Son, Poochera. made $270, after Nutrien Ag Solutions Jamestown snapped up the 192 August-shn ewes averaging 70.5kg.
Arunta Pastoral, Wudinna, made $260 for 130 big-barreled 69kg Brimanna-blds to Spence and Dix Clare.
Kaira, Streaky Bay, offered 223 White River-bld May/June 2020-drops averaging 66.5kg and made $250 to Nutrien Ag Loxton.
Ewes in the 2019-drop section were scarce and 259 from Oscan Partnership, Jamestown, sold to a buyer on AuctionsPlus for $272. The O'Brien-blds averaged 84kg.
The same vendor topped the 2018-drop section with 147 June/July 2018-drops averaging 86.4kg making $252 to an AuctionsPlus buyer.
RK,JJ,JK & A Murdoch, Warooka, made $200 for 258, 2017-drop Carricowie-blds averaging 79.4kg to AuctionsPlus and Arunta Pastoral, Wudinna, made $220 for 174 October-shn Brimanna-blds.
KJ&CR Teague, Orroroo, made $236 for 130 Broadoak-bld 2016-drops averaging a weighty 81.2kg to Elders Murray Bridge.
LR&CH - MRR & JB Nutt made $195 for 289 Greenfield-bld August-shns averaging 68.4kg to Spence & Dix Meningie.
In the 2015-drop section KJ&CR Teague made $172 for 265 dispersal Broadoak-blds averaging 76.1kg to AuctionsPlus.
Local producer CS &AM Simpson, Jamestown, smaller run of Gum Hill-bld October-shn April/May 2021-drops made the wether section's $175 top price and sold to Nutrien Ag Solutions Glenn Keast.
Well-known vendor L&S Jacka & Co, Mannararie, achieved $172 after Elders Naracoorte made the final bid on 269 wether lambs averaging 43kg.
The Bradfield-blds were April/May 2021-drops and August-shn.
Just one bid back from the top price were vendors Arunta Pastoral whom made $170 for 287 of their Brimanna-bld October-shns to Elders Bordertown and JM Lewis & Co, Kapunda, made the same money for 263 Greenfield-bld August-shns to Elders Eudunda.
Walmona Pastoral Proprietary Limited, Truro, offered the largest run of wethers, offering 1879 of September-shn Rices Creek-blds with 389 of the tops, averaging 32kg making $154 to Spence and Dix Clare.
A mob of 958 second run Walmona wethers averaging 31.7kg was divided up for buyers Nutrien Ag Solutions Mallala who won the bid on the largest draft of 470 for $140 and Nutrien Ag Balaklava paid $141 for 234 and Nutrien Beaton Agencies Kapunda sourced 234 for slightly cheaper at $138.
The lighter end of Walmona's offering averaging 27.5kg made $126 after 532 wethers were bought by Nutrien Ag Snowtown.
Smith Partners Belton, Belton, had the second-highest offering of wethers, yarding 1448 Glenville-bld woolly wethers.
The top run of 672 lambs made $160 and sold to Princess Royal, Burra, while a mob of 358 was sold in two lots, 179 to Elders Naracoorte for $155 and $144 to Elders Burra.
Returns for crossbred lambs remained firm with Smith Partners Belton making $179 for their offering of 273 Annavilla/Gumview/Willochra woolly lambs to Elders Jamestown.
