A QUALITY offering of young first-cross ewes have pushed prices to a saleyard record of $404 at Mount Pleasant on Wednesday.
Upward of 5000 ewes were yarded at the first-cross and off-shears sale, with the top first-cross one-and-a-half-year-old ewe price made by DN&MA&CR Schultz, Cambrai.
The 70 Belmont/Hilton Heath-blood one-and-a-half-year-old Border Leicester/Merino ewes and won the Best Presented Pen awarded by the Australian Border Leicester Association.
Fawcett Livestock's David Schultz said he cannot see a reason for anyone to not be happy with the results from the sale.
"The sale went really well," he said.
"The good quality sheep sold really well, the second grades ones were a bit discounted but otherwise really good.
Mr Schultz said the sheep were well presented.
"Vendors presented some properly shorn sheep that were also nicely rounded and basically ready to join up," he said.
"Most vendors sell here every year and they get a reputation where the buyers know who is who and the sheep they have bought before have performed well for them."
Brown Farming Enterprises, Keyneton, sold the second highest price pen for 108 October-shorn Belmont-blood first-cross ewes made $396 to WB&SJ Hurn, Angaston.
In addition to the run of 108, Brown Farming Enterprises, sold a pen of 49 October-shorn Paxton/Belmont-bld, July/August-2020 drop averaging 70 kilograms at $384.
At $384 Graetz Family Trust, Keyneton a run of 85 Belmont/Bunyara/Nyowee-bld one-and-a-half-year-old Border Leicester/Merino ewes, averaging 61.6kg, sold; and another pen of 19 for the same amount.

In the ewe lamb offering DN&MA&CR Schultz, Cambrai made the top price again at $378 for 110 Belmont/Hilton Heath-bld, averaging 56.4kg as a March/April 2021-drop, a run of 88, 50.1kg average for $372 and another pen of 31 for $366.
CS&AM Simpson, Jamestown, sold 45 April/March 2021, October shorn, Koonawarra/Gum Hill-blood at $350.
Mr Shultz said the good Merino ewes sold well but the second grade didn't seem to sell as well.
Dopen Pty Ltd, Rockleigh, sold 32 Merino ewes with Ridgway Advance-bld, May/June 2020, September shorn, at $292.
A pen of 22 Glenlea Park-bld April May 2020 drop, September shorn, offered by RD Thiele, Monarto, sold at $274.
MC&L Schneider, Dutton, sold 29 Nyowee-bld May/June 2020 drop, July shorn at $258.
Merino wether prices were good with a pen of 416 Tara Hills Pastoral, Tungkillo, Ridgeway-bld May/June 2021 drop, 40.1kg average, September shorn pen selling at $168.
G&JR Koopman, Charleston, sold a pen of 53 Lucerne Bray-bld May/June 2021 for $146.
A run of 324 merino wether lambs from AMP Farms Trust, Tungkillo, Bunyara/Mulloric-bld May/June 2021, September shorn, sold at $136, while Sunnyvale Props, Eden Valley, sold 101 Babirra-bld Dohnes.
