The partnership of Baringa and Seriston received very strong widespread support for its fourth northern pastoral Australian White sale at Jamestown last Thursday.
Vendors Brayden Gilmore, Baringa, Oberon, NSW, and Anthony Hurst, Seriston, Avenue Range, doubled the offering to almost 200 rams and 40 ewes with the aim of affordability for buyers.
The end result was 69 more rams sold than 2020, with an increase in average price of $453.
All up, 169 of 191 rams sold to $12,000, averaging $2885.
The $12,000 sale top ram was Lot 22 - 20A485T - bought online by Andrew Rayner, Grathlyn stud, NSW.
This ram had Australian Sheep Breeding Values of of -0.7 for birthweight, 7.19 weaning weight, 10.19 post-weaning weight, -0.04 PW fat, 1.29 PW eye muscle depth and a Maternal Carcase Plus index of 125.84.
Mr Rayner said they had done very well with Baringa stock in the past seven years.
"He is a different line to what we have been using. His pedigree and data ticked the boxes and he looked clean up front," he said.
Mr Hurst described the ram as "very safe" with immaculate feet, early shedding and moderate framed with a heavy carcase.
There were 39 registered buyers and very strong support throughout the sale on AuctionsPlus, including 22 online bidders operating on 104 lots, placing more than 500 bids and buying 86 lots.
The Eyre Peninsula had very dominant buyer support.
The sale was strong at the front of the catalogue with bidding in the gallery and online with the first 50 rams averaging $4396.
There were numerous volume buyers from a widespread area across the country.
Lintern Holdings bought five rams to average $4760, having recently bought 300 Australian White ewes from the Jackson family, Keith.
Represenative Wayne Smith said they were after and "easy to manage sheep option with low input and production costs" for their high rainfall country to yield a "very good return on investment".
"We purchased five rams and six ewes that were good value buying selecting for best shedding qualities for no shearing," he said.

Return buyers Geoff and Anne Cummings, Port Lincoln, secured six rams to average $4233.
They live in Port Lincoln and have a property just out of town and really like the ease of management of the Australian Whites.
"Aussie Whites are tiny lambs born and then go boom- they really grow eating grass early," Ms Cummins said.
"We were selecting on skin type for shedding quality, PEMD- eye muscle depth, MCP+- Maternal carcase Index and SRC- Self Replacing Index."
The studs also doubled the ewe offering from 20 to 40, with 20 ewes sold to a top of $4200 to average $1953.
The top price ewe was Lot 221 - 20A379 - bought by TE Ryan & Son PTY LTD, Riverina stud, Berrigan, NSW.
Baringa stud principal Brayden Gilmore said they aimed to make sure the sheep were affordable for their clients and to hold back the base price by offering additional lots.
Elders auctioneer Tony Wetherall said shedding breeds were popular and "no more than Aussie Whites".
"Baringa and Seriston sale is going from strength to strength with buyer confidence backed by ASBV's," he said.
"There was strong support Australia wide and on Auctionsplus. The studs have a real commercial focus with their breeding objectives."
