BUYERS bid with confidence at Jamestown's feature ewe sale on Thursday, with large-framed, stretchy younger ewes in great demand and attracting plenty of attention from interstate agents in the pen.
Labelled by Nutrien Ag Solutions Jamestown auctioneer Shannon Jaeschke as the "best offering" at Jamestown in recent memory, buyers were spoiled for choice.
"It was a solid sale throughout and the middle run of young ewes sold exceptionally well and made between $250-$300," he said.
"Breeding ewes certainly lifted as well by about $15 to $30 depending on quality."
Topping the market at $354 was regular Jamestown seller Garawang, Georgetown, that offered a run of stretchy ewes that are well-known to buyers in the area.
It was a smaller line of 98 April/May 2020-drop Glenville/Baderloo-bloods averaging 68.9 kilograms that sold to Elders Kadina.
Vendor KJ&SJ Lemon, Gulnare, who are no strangers to breaking records, were not far behind the top price and made $340.
A slightly larger run of 127, Moorundie Park April/May 2020-drops averaging 70.5kg sold to Nutrien Ag Kadina.
Sparks Farming 'Munduney', Spalding, offered 418, April/May 2020-drop September-shorns at $330.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Naracoorte made the final bid on the Springvale North-blood big barreled ewes that weighed an average of 63.3 kilograms.
The same vendor offered a further 179, 1.5yo ewes at $272.
With an average weight of 54.4kg, this run was secured by interstate buyer Nutrien Harcourts BR&C Ouyen.
AC Jacka & Sons, Jamestown, offered a couple of runs, a line of 231 Septembers-shn Minta-blds averaging 65kg made $320 and sold to Nutrien Ag Bendigo, while 183, slightly younger July/August 2020-drops averaging 68.3kg made $294 and sold to an AuctionsPlus buyer.
Walmona Pastoral Proprietary Limited, Truro, offered a pretty big run of 684 one-and-a-half year-olds.
The first run of 270 June/July Rices Creek-bld ewes averaging 57.8kg made $305 to Southern Australian Livestock Naracoorte and a further 270 made $280 to Nutrien Harcourts BR&C Ouyen.
The final run of 144, 1.5yo ewes made $262 to Nutrien Ag Solutions Beaton Agencies Kapunda.
Local vendor Terinless Pty Ltd, Jamestown, made $300 for 182 Hamilton Run-bld April/May 2020-drops averaging 71.1kg that sold to Nutrien Ag Bendigo, Vic.
Bidding momentum for 2017-drop ewes of well-known bloodlines kept the market buoyant with the section reaching $252 for 253 Baderloo-blds averaging 66.6kg from KL,LM&DK Moore, Jamestown, that sold to Nutrien Ag Solutions Melrose.
Older ewes made to $218 for 343, White River-bld April/May 2016-drops averaging 78.3kg from WG Fuss & Sons, Cummins, that sold to an AuctionsPlus buyer.
AuctionsPlus continued to dominate the bidding for older ewes, with another online registered buyer securing 169, June/July 2015-drop East Bungaree-blds averaging 69.1kg for $164.
