A local grower has delivered the first load of new season grain in the central region into Viterra's Port Pirie site.
Mambray Creek grower Ben Bussenschutt, who has been the first to deliver into the Viterra system for several years running, delivered the load of barley on Monday.
Viterra Central region operations manager for the Central region Jack Tansley says it marks the start of a busy time when all of the business' planning and preparation during the year is put into place to ensure sites are ready to go.
"A key priority for us is to provide grower customers with a valuable and efficient service. We work hard to seek and respond to their feedback, and match services at sites to their needs," he said.
"Preparations include reopening the outwards weighbridge at the Port Pirie township site to reduce turnaround times for growers, and remodelling the classification layout to improve efficiency when classifying loads.
"We introduced these changes as a direct result of feedback received from growers about the site's operations last harvest."
Viterra has strengthened its grower services offerings for its customers this harvest with the introduction of port direct and the new digital delivery advice.

"Our grower and buyer customers can benefit from up to $11.10 per tonne reduction in receival fees with port direct which enables buyers to purchase grain directly from growers ahead of when a vessel is booked to load," Mr Tansley said.
"Port direct provides greater flexibility for growers who prefer to store their grain on farm and deliver their grain directly to port postharvest."
Viterra has also released its new digital delivery advice into the Viterra app to save growers' time and streamline their delivery process.
"I've received positive feedback on the new service, and I look forward to hearing from more growers as I believe it will be a valuable tool and a significant time-saver for growers," Mr Tansley said.
So far Viterra has received 214 tonnes in the Western region.
