KEN and Betty Walker, Kenlorne Poll Dorsets, presented another top quality catalogue of 87 grassfed and pasture-raised rams for sale on Tuesday last week, at their 31st annual ram sale near Beachport.
At the fall of final hammer, 73 of the 82 rams in the Kenlorne catalogue, were sold to a top of $2900.
Local grazier and regular buyer Jason Sutherland, Bray, paid the top money of $2900 for his Lot 17 selection.
The ram's Terminal Carcass Production index of 136.7 and figures of 0.8 for eye muscle index, -1.5 for post-weaning fat and 16 for PW weight, factored into the $2900 price.
"He's a good ram with good structure and shape", Mr Sutherland said.
Paying from $800 through to the top price of $2900, Mr Sutherland bought 11 rams, for an average price of $1627, through Elders Millicent.
Ben Finch, Elders said they were particularly looking for "even carcased, structurally sound, heavy boned rams and found a good offering through right through the catalogue.
"(This) allowed us to go a bit harder at the top and still make our average look reasonable at the end," he said.
Three stud rams were offered at the top of the catalogue with Lot 1 selling to Peter Altschwager, MD Altschwager & Sons, Tantanoola at $1500. Mr Altschwager bought 15 rams, paying from $800-$1600, for an average $1206.
The two remaining stud rams, lots 2 and 3 sold at $2000 and $1000 respectively to repeat buyer, Trent Bettes, Bettes Ag, Keith. The Bettes family bought eight rams to $2800 for an average $1500 through Spence Dix & Co, Keith.
Regular buyer of Kenlorne Poll Dorset genetics, John Lambert Bimbimbi Proprietors, Penola, bought the volume number of 18 rams through Elders Millicent, paying to $2000 for an average of $1366.

Kenlorne stud principal Ken Walker was pleased to see all the familiar buyers back at the 2021 sale.
"I think the sale went really well" he said.
"This year we had a good even line of rams with clean faces and good length, muscle and some new genetics including from the Newbold stud. It's good to see most of the buyers here who come back every year to buy our rams".
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Millicent and Elders Millicent. Nutrien studstock auctioneer Richard Miller, stepped up to the rostrum to sell the 2021 offering.
"This draft of rams is the biggest and most robust we've had to sell from the Walker Family," he said.
Mr Miller said the line up included rams with "massive growth and high performance".
