SOMETIMES it feels almost every day and month has been co-opted by a cause.
It's at the point where one of the weekly questions in the pub trivia I compete in asks if a particular "day" is real or made up. For example, is national collect rocks day real or fake? It's real - September 16, in case you're wondering.
But while some can be a gimmick, others are an important way to reflect and highlight something important, such as on Friday for International Day of Rural Women.
Of course, women have always been part of agriculture and rural life. But from a brief perusal through our Flashback Friday galleries, you see it's not that long ago that women's inputs were somewhat overlooked.
Looking at last week's Flashback Friday, you can see some major milestones.
It was 63 years ago that the first woman judged the beef cattle at the Royal Adelaide Show. By looking at the junior judges competitions at Mount Pleasant and Murray Bridge, it's obvious there have been some shifts in that time.
More recently, we've gone from the first woman on the board of the Australian Wool Growers Association to four in just months.
There are some amazing female innovators in this industry, and it's nice to take time to think about those driving it forward.
