Tertiary agricultural science students and industry members converged on the Howling Owl on Friday last week, coming together at the end of a six-month mentoring program facilitated by the Adelaide University Agricultural Students Association.
The mentoring program, which has followed on from a highly-successful pilot year in 2020, involved a group of 16 third-year agricultural science students being matched up with a mentor in the agricultural industry, providing a valuable networking opportunity and possible job prospects for students involved.
Through the year, mentees and mentors have participated in workshops, attended a "work speed dating" session, and worked together to prepare mentees as best as possible to enter into the workforce.
Friday's event marked the conclusion of this year's program. On the day, each mentee spoke briefly about their experience in the program, what they'd learned, and how their perceptions of the industry had changed.

AUASA president Brianna Schaefer said Friday had been a very successful day.
"It was a fantastic event, everyone had a really good afternoon, and a few of us committee members were on a high from it for a few days following," she said.
"The mentees have found it to be a really rewarding program overall, and I've received a lot of great comments from the mentors too, about how they've enjoyed giving their buddies an insight into their jobs and the wider ag industry."
Mentors came from a variety of different agricultural industries and companies, for example GRDC, SA livestock consultants, AgXtra and Dairy SA.
Ms Schaefer wished to thank the Yitpi Foundation, who were a major sponsor of the program.
