The annual October feature ewe sale at Cleve on Wednesday last week offered buyers from across the Eyre Peninsula with a plethora of quality restocking and replacement options, with bidders helping the sale to a $344 top.
Just shy of about 5000 young and breeding ewes were on offer and the sale was highlighted by well-presented dispersal sheep from Lock from S Zacher, PD&HD Beard, EJ Fry and the final lot of young ewes from NT&NH Kay.
A part dispersal by RG&CS Hannemann, Mangalo, was also lined up for buyers though it was WD&RH Elson, Cleve, that topped the sale with 40 April/May 2020-drop Calcookara bloods that made $344 and sold to Elders Lucindale.
Larger lines of young ewes from NT&NH Kay made $342, after 234 September/October 2020-drop sold to Elders Jamestown.
S Zacher offered 215 May/June 2020-drop young ewes that made $338 and sold to Elders Cleve.
Carrawa Holdings Carpa, Cleve, sold 75 April/May 2020-drops for $340 to Elders Cleve, ER BR Millard,Wharminda, made $292 for 191 April/May 2020-drop Nantoura-blds that sold to Elders Lucindale.
The breeding ewes were mostly presented in prime condition with the Zacher dispersal highlighting the sale. Their Moorundie Park-bld 162 2019-drops made $302, 2018-drops reached $286 while 2017-drops made $244.
DJ Humphries, Darke Peak, sold a complete drop of 204 2019-drops for $298 to Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen, Naracoorte.
HD Beard, Cleve, offered 125 Greenfields/Minta-bld 2019-drops and made $242 and a further 112, 2018-drops made $232 and 2017-drop reached $202.
RG CS Hannemann made $226 for 2019-drop ewes while the 2018-drops made $172.
In the 2021 lamb section, DH Turnbull Co, Cleve, offered 207 and 162 May/June woolly lambs and made $152 while Pendeen Trust, Rudall, made $154 for 91 Moorundie Park-blds.
Elders Cleve Mick Noble said the sheep quality was a credit to the vendors considering the tough start to the season.
"They made good money and it was a great result.
"The dispersal runs of sheep were a highlight."
