A new sale record for a Charollais ewe was made yesterday when Matthew and Kylie Bright, Cold Water Creek Charollais stud, Blayney, had their inaugural ram and ewe sale.

Mr Bright said they started breeding pure bred Charollais sheep February 2013 and were pleased to present 48 sheep for their first public auction.

"We are over the moon with our sale results today," he said.

Mr Bright was referring to the top price for a ram at $5000, and the top price for a ewe also at $5000, which is a new Australian record.

The sale grossed $120 000 for the 48 lots for an overall sale average of $2500.

The rams averaged $2461; the ewes with lambs averaged $3316and the young maiden ewes averaged $1916.

The top priced ram at $5000 was purchased by the Vortex White Suffolk and Charollais stud, Benalla, Victoria.

Mr Bright said a new stud just starting out, was the purchaser of our top priced ewe that sold for $5000, setting a new Australian record for a Charollais ewe.

"She was just twelve months old with a ewe lamb and ram lamb at foot," he said.

"The ram lamb is an attractive sheep and the buyer really liked him."

Mr Bright noted that purchaser bought 4 ewes in total averaging $3800.

Mr Bright expressed his appreciation to Christian Hoolihan from Southern Livestock Agencies, Goulburn, for running a great sale in association with AuctionsPlus.
