A trial program is calling on landholders to register their farm firefighting units with the Country Fire Service, with proponents saying it will better help improve safety on the fireground.
CFS frontline services support executive director Georgie Cornish said the initiative would allow for better communication and coordination.
A CFS spokesperson said registered FFU operators would need to have appropriate PPE and notify the CFS on their arrival at the fireground, including via UHF channels or mobile phone, to be included in operational activities and support.
The announcement has had mixed response from the public with some saying it was important to ensure the CFS and FFU operators were on the same page, while others were cautious this may lead to more restrictions and regulations.
