LAMB prices remained steady at last Thursday's Mount Pleasant market with processors competing strongly at the saleyard to secure numbers, causing a $260 top price for lambs.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Fawcett Livestock's Colin Fawcett said returns for new season lambs were strong and he expected it to continue for a while.
"The prices were up a fair bit compared with past markets - there were quality lambs throughout the sale.
"Processors and local butchers are driving most of the price rises."
In the lamb offering, HT Hein, Murray Bridge, made the $260 top price for one crossbred lamb and RJ&RJ Wooly, Nairne, received $240 for two and AJ&JI Bowd, Athlestone, made $234 for 15.
CA Paech, Tepko, offered one of the larger lines of lambs after making $230 for 21 and RD &CJ Lindner, Palmer, offered 31 lambs and made $225.
Another run of 30 lambs from the Lindner family made $ 218 and T&N Kennett, Brinkley, made $225 for eight.
Returns for wethers peaked at $200 for one from RJ Wachtel, Millendella, and a draft of 24 ewes from CW J&CE Clark, Ashbourne, made $190 for 24 ewes.
Mr Fawcett said returns for cattle were good, with heavier cattle in demand and reaching a $2780 top for steers.
JB Cattle Co, Balhannah, made the steer top price for one Angus and the second-highest price for steers was $2680 for a Limousin steer from Hearnden Farms, Keyneton.
Heifers made to $2340 for a Murray Grey from AG&BA Loffler, Mannum, and PA&FT Frahn, Mannum, made $2280 for a Limousin.
