Woolly wethers to $256
RESTOCKERS and local processors helped create strong competition at the annual Murray Bridge woolly wether lamb sale on Monday, with the sale topping at $256 - a major improvement on last year's top of $173.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Murray Bridge's Kevin Keller said lambs suitable for slaughter sold strongly, while feeder lambs generally sold better than expected.
"Processors looked after us really well, that side of it was really strong," he said.
"It was a very strong, pleasing sale. The sale was good, if not better than expected."
Elders Murray Bridge's Scott Eichler said the trade lamb prices were up by $10 to $20 on what they were expecting.
"The top end sheep presented exceptionally well considering it was a late start, but otherwise there was good feeder types right down to our little immature lambs," he said.
The first pen of the sale made the top price of $256, paid by Midfield for 78 Galaxy Park-blood wether lambs from CA Paech & K Monlar, Tepko.
They also sold 145 at $165 and 69 at $112.
The second-highest price of $244 was also paid by Midfield, for 60 Kamora Park-bld wether lambs from Inglebrae Holdings, Callington.
Neina Hill, Murray Bridge, sold 58 Hilton Heath-blds for $232, bought by Midfield. They also sold 62 for $160.
A pen of 67 Kamora Park-blds from SJ Willison, Palmer, sold at $224 to Midfield.
KW&PM O'Malley, Perponda, sold 326 lambs for $198 to Quality Livestock.
A pen of 215 Sandalwood Poll-blds offered by MH&NE Falting & Sons, Loxton, made $198, while a pen of 71 sold for $139 and a further 33 made $115.
DR&YA Webster, Mannum, made $193 for 150 Orrie Cowie-blds, while RJ&EA Frahn, Monarto, sold 145 Dalveen-blds for $192, and another 49 for $122.
DL&LK Pearson, Brinkley, made $175 for 220 Ramsgate-bld lambs.

IP,RW&DD Paech, Murray Bridge, sold 126 Lucernbrae-blds for $175, as well as 268 at $147 and a line of 26 for $82.
Also making $175 was Jojaz Pastoral, Mount Pleasant, for 39, with another pen of 71 sold for $147.
A line of 145 from RM&TE Hein, Murray Bridge, made $167, while 47 made $116.
PJ&MS Carling, Parrakie, sold 194 lambs at $165.
JF,PJ&RA Rodges, Milang, made $164 for 96 Orrie Cowie-bld lambs.
Ninety from BJ&AJ Eggers, Claypans, sold for $164.
HT Hein, Murray Bridge, sold 59 for $160 and another pen of 72 for $130.
The Murray Bridge off-shears ewe sale will be held tomorrow (Friday), while the next wether sale will be held on Monday.
