Av $2676 $2190
HAMILTON RUN'S sale began with a bang at the front end of the catalogue, after the stud recorded its $5500 top price in the first three lots.
The sale cleared all 90 rams offered and had a healthy average of $2676, up by almost $500 on last year's result.
Warrow stud, Brenalta Poll Merino, bought the top price ram through livestock consultant Ian Bradtke.
Buying at Hamilton Run for the first time, Brenalta stud principal Brenton Paech said the ram was recommended to him because of its suitability.
"I was really impressed by its depth of body and wool figures - it was a pretty plain ram too.
"Its white wool also attracted me to it - that is a key trait we want in our wool."
The stud has multiple bloodlines running through it, including Gunallo, White River and Flairdale.
The ram will be put over stud ewes on December 1.
The 128 kilogram top price ram was by home-bred sire, HR1208 and carried fleece measurements of 18.7 micron, 2.5 standard deviation, 13.5 coefficient of variation and a 99.6 per cent comfort factor.
Its greasy fleece weight was 116.6pc and had 3.9 fat with an eye muscle depth of 42.2 millimetres.
Hamilton Run principal Greg Andrews was "extremely" happy with the sale's result.
"I think we achieved depth and uniformity all the way through the sale.
"It was great to have so much support and the bids definitely came in for the standout lots."
The $5400 second-highest price ram was lot 44, a young ram that came straight out of the paddock and into the sale.
It was just $100 behind the top price after another bidding battle between buyers in the barn and online clickers meant prices remained consistent throughout the sale.
The ram weighed 98kg and its fleece was 16.8M with 2.1SD, 12.5CV, 100.1pc CF and 110.1pc GFW, 3.6 fat and 40.1mm EMA.
The stud also sold two stud sires privately before the sale, one made $12,000 and sold to Mernowie stud at Marrabel and the other made $15,000 to an undisclosed buyer from the Yorke Peninsula.
Elders auctioneer Laryn Gogel described the sale as very consistent and ultimately, the average was better than where the stud was last year.
"It reflects the style of sheep through the catalogue and that Greg is on a program that is moving in a desirable direction.
Mr Gogel noted the "pencil thin" and "sassy" wool type of the top price ram.
"It appealed to producers wanting to introduce a different style into their sheep."
Sale volume buyer Kitschke Ag, Caltowie, bought eight rams to $3000, averaging $2650.
MB,KJ,&JB Heinicke, Pinnaroo, secured seven to $3500, averaging $2871, while AL&JC Woolford, Wilmington, bought seven to $2200, averaging $1642.
Erewhon Pastoral Company, Penola, had a healthy average of $4910.
The sale was conducted by Nurtrien Ag Solutions Jamestown and Elders Jamestown with Elders auctioneer Laryn Gogel taking the bids.
